Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Willow Ermine - Yponomeuta rorrella.

Willow Ermine - Yponomeuta rorrella. A micro moth species from the family of Yponomeutidae, subfamily Yponomeutinae. The moth has a wingspan of 19 to 24 mm. This is one of four Ermine moth species, namely Orchard Ermine - Yponomeuta padella, Apple Ermine - Yponomeuta malinellus, Spindle Ermine - Yponomeuta cagnagella and Willow Ermine - Yponomeuta rorrell which are now recorded as Yponomeuta agg unless made clear that they were recorded as an occupied larval web or reared from the relevant larval foodplant. The species' habitat is In areas where willow species are present. This moth is on the wing in July and August and, in common with others in the group, is readily attracted to light. A relatively local species, it occurs regularly in much of England, though with an eastern and coastal preference. This species is classified as local in the UK. The species’ life history is that the larvae feed within the seedheads of oxtongue or hawk's beard.
