Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Wainscot Smudge or Tufted Scallop - Ypsolopha scabrella.

Wainscot Smudge or Tufted Scallop - Ypsolopha scabrella. A micro moth species from the family of Ypsolophidae, subfamily Ypsolophinaehiidae. The moth has a wingspan of 20 to 22 mm. Three raised tufts of scales are visible when the moth is at rest. This species’ habitat is visiting gardens and woodlands. This moth is on the wing in July and August and is attracted to light. The species’ life history shows that the larvae feed on apples or hawthorn. This species is sporadically common over much of England and parts of Wales and is classified as common in the UK.
