Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Varied Coronet - Hadena compta

Varied Coronet - Hadena compta A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae, sub family Hadeninae. The moth has a wingspan of 25-30 mm. An adventive colonist, being relatively unknown in the British Isles until the late 1940s. The preferred habitat is Calcareous grassland and gardens. The moths can be found on the wing from June to July when the species comes to light. The species' life history is the main foodplant is Sweet William - Dianthus barbatus, and as a result, it is often common in gardens, but it also feeds on Bladder Campion, in both cases consuming the seeds. It overwinters as a pupa. This species is classified as common.
