Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Straw-barred Pearl - Pyrausta despicata.

Straw-barred Pearl - Pyrausta despicata. A micro moth species from the family of Crambidae, subfamily Pyraustinae. The moth has a wingspan of about 14 o 19 mm. The plainest looking of our native Pyrausta species. This species’ habitat occupies suitably chalky and limestone areas. This moth is on the wing from July and August. The species’ life history is that the larvae feed on Ribwort Plantain and Greater Plantain, often in groups, in silken galleries. The species is found in suitable habitats throughout the UK and is classified as common.
