Spindle Ermine - Yponomeuta cagnagella

Spindle Ermine - Yponomeuta cagnagella A micro moth species from the family of Yponomeutidae , sub family Yponomeutinae. The moth has a wingspan of 9-26mm This is one of four Ermine moth species of the Yponomeuta family namely Orchard Ermine-Yponomeuta padella), Apple Ermine-Yponomeuta malinellus, Spindle Ermine - Yponomeuta cagnagella and Willow Ermine - Yponomeuta rorrella which is recorded as Yponomeuta agg., unless they were recorded as an occupied larval web or reared from the relevant larval foodplant. Its preferred habitat is Prefers chalk or limestone districts. The moths can be found on the wing in July and August. The species' life history is that the larvae of the food plant are Spindle; they feed gregariously in a silken web. It is widespread throughout Britain except in the far north. This species is classified as common.
