Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Reed Veneer - Chilo phragmitella

Reed Veneer - Chilo phragmitella A micro moth species from the family of Crambidae, sub family Crambinae. The moth has a wingspan of 24 to 40 mm. A sexually dimorphic species, the females are paler in colour and generally larger than the males. Both sexes have distinctively long labial palps. The species' preferred habitats are fens and other wet places where large reedbeds occur. The moths can be found on the wing from June to July. The species' life history is that the whitish caterpillars feed inside the stems of common reed and reed sweet grass. Found mainly in England and Wales. This species is classified as local.
