Meadow Case-bearer or Clothed Case-bearer - Coleophora mayrella

Meadow Case-bearer or Clothed Case-bearer - Coleophora mayrella. A micro moth species from the family of Coleophoridae. The moth has a wingspan of 10-12 mm. The adults have a bronzy or greenish metallic sheen, and the whitish antennae are thickened near the base. The moths' habitat Is grassy areas and waste ground. It is on the wing in June and July. Adults fly during the day and after dark when they are attracted to light. The species’ life history is Larval feed within the flowers of White Clover. A larval case is built in the later stages but is very difficult to see. A widely distributed species throughout Britain and Ireland. This species is classified as local in the UK.
