Lichen Button or Lichen Tortrix - Acleris literana

Lichen Button or Lichen Tortrix - Acleris literana A micro moth species from the family of Tortricidae, sub family Tortricinae. The moth has a wingspan of 18 to 22 mm. This is a distinctive species, but quite variable. Pale green ground colour with whitish and blackish markings. Common name from its appearance not foodplant. Its favoured habitats are mainly Oak woodland. The moth can be found on the wing in August and September, and again in April and May, having overwintered as an adult. The species' life history is the larvae feed on a variety of trees and shrubs, showing a preference for Ivy. Locally distributed, mainly in the southern half of Britain. and is classified as local.
