Grey Knot-horn - Trachycera advenella.

Grey Knot-horn - Trachycera advenella. A micro moth species from the family of Pyralidae, subfamily Phycitinaenae . The moth has a wingspan of 18 to 24 mm. The species has a rather banded pattern of reds and greys. This moth can be found on the wing from July to August and is often a visitor to the light-trap. Its habitat is areas of old uncut Hawthorn hedges. The species' life history is the larvae feed mainly on Hawthorn, but also sometimes on Rowan. Distributed widely throughout much of Britain except the far North. This species is classified as common in the UK.
