Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Elder Pearl - Anania coronate.

Elder Pearl - Anania coronate. A micro moth species from the family of Crambidae. subfamily Pyraustinae. The moth has a wingspan of 22 to 26 mm. This is an easy species to recognise - its dark brown wings have large pale circular patches and are lightly fringed. Its habitats are in, rough ground and in gardens where Elder flourishes. This moth can be found on the wing from June to July, Is the main flight period often attracted to light. Adults can sometimes be disturbed during the day by the foodplant. The species' life history is that the larvae feed on the young leaves of Elder; they hibernate during the Winter, pupating in the Spring. This species is classified as common in the UK.
