Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Common Flat-body- Agonopterix heracliana.

Common Flat-body- Agonopterix heracliana. A micro moth species from the family of Depressariidae , sub family Depressariinae. The moth has a wingspan of 15 to 21 mm. Part of a group of very similar-looking species. Identification can be difficult but Agonopterix heracliana can be separated from Agonopterix ciliella by checking the hindwing. Agonopterix ciliella has five brownish lines in the cilia near the base of the hindwing. Agonopterix heracliana only has one. Its habitat is gardens, waste ground, woodland edges and a wide range of other habitats. This moth can be found on the wing any time from September through to April. The species' life history is that the larva spins the leaves of a variety of umbelliferous plants, occurring between May and July. This species is classified as a common species in the UK.
