Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Black-tipped Ermine - Yponomeuta plumbella.

Black-tipped Ermine - Yponomeuta plumbella. A micro moth species from the family of Yponomeutidae, subfamily Yponomeutinae. The moth has a wingspan of 16 to 20 mm. It is one of the more easily recognisable Yponomeuta species, with a distinct black spot centrally on the forewing and a blackish patch at the wingtip. The moths can be found on the wing from July to August. It is a common inhabitant of fens and marshes. There are two generations, with moths on the wing in April and May and again in August. It is attracted to light. The larval foodplant is Spindle, the caterpillars mining the leaves initially, later living gregariously in a silken web. It is classified as a local species in the UK.
