Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Ash-bark Knot-horn - Euzophera pinguis

Ash-bark Knot-horn, Euzophera pinguis. This moth is a micromoth from the family Pyralidae, subfamily, Phycitinae. With a Wingspan 23 to 28 mm. The diagnostic zigzag lines and dark and pale colour bands make this species easy to distinguish. A UK, common microspecies found, mainly among ash, (Fraxinus) the foodplant. The larvae burrow into the bark of ash trees, and can eventually kill the tree if present in numbers. The adults are on the wing in July and August and are attracted to light after dark. The Species is relatively common and widespread and is classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
