Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Thicket Knot-horn - Trachycera suavella

Thicket Knot-horn - Trachycera suavella A micro moth species from the family of Pyralidae, sub family Phycitinae. The moth has a wingspan of 22 to 24 mm. This is the largest of the British Trachycera species, and rather dark, being mostly reddish-purple with two indistinct pale crosslines and a whitish suffusion near the leading edge of the forewing. The preferred habitat is in areas containing Blackthorn. The moths can be found on the wing in July and August. The species' life history is that Blackthorn is the preferred foodplant, the larvae constructing an untidy silken gallery amongst the leaves. This species is classified as local.
