Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Pied Smudge - Ypsolopha sequella

Pied Smudge - Ypsolopha sequella A micro moth species from the family of Ypsolophidae, sub family Ypsolophinae. The moth has a wingspan of 18-20 mm. This is a highly distinctive species with its pied appearance. The dark patterning on the moth's shoulder is said to resemble the head of a Rabbit. The species' preferred habitats are woodland and urban areas, especially where Field Maple is planted. The moth can be found on the wing from mid-May to early October. The species' life history is that the larvae feed mostly on species of Acer, particularly Field Maple - Acer campestre. This moth is widespread in wooded areas over England and Wales. This species is classified as common.
