Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Wax Moth - Galleria mellonella.

Wax Moth - Galleria mellonella. A micro moth species from the family of Pyralidae, subfamily Galleriinae. The moth has a wingspan of 29 to 40 mm. The males of this species have a distinctively concave outer edge to the forewing; the females are generally plainer in appearance with a less concave edge. This species’ habitat is around bee hives. This moth is on the wing in June and October, the adults can be attracted to light. The species’ life history is the name 'Wax Moth' refers to the moth's lifestyle - it lives in beehives, where the larvae feed on the honeycomb. This species was once local and rare in Britain but has become much more common recently and is classified as common in the UK.
