Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Sallow Button - Acleris hastiana.

Sallow Button - Acleris hastiana. A micro moth species from the family of Tortricidae, subfamily Tortricinae. The moth has a wingspan of about 20 mm. This moth is the most variable British tortrix moth, with dozens of named forms and many intermediate types. This species’ habitat is Various. There are two generations, with moths on the wing in June and July and again in August when the adults hibernate. There is just one brood in parts of Scotland, flying from September onwards. The species’ life history is that the larvae feed on small-leaved Willows, spinning together two or more leaves. Fairly frequent and widely distributed throughout the UK. The species is classified as common in the UK.
