Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Pale Water-veneer - Donacaula forficella.

Pale Water-veneer - Donacaula forficella. A micro moth species from the family of Crambidae, subfamily Schoenobiinae. The moth has a wingspan of 24 to 32 mm. Its preferred habitats are marshy areas, ditches, and similar habitats. This moth is on the wing between June and July and is usually encountered at light. The species’ life history is that the larvae of this species have a peculiar habit of cutting part of a leaf to act as a raft, using this to float on the water to a new food plant when necessary. Common reeds and similar plants are the larval food plants. The species is found in the southern half of Britain, and the species status is classified as local in the UK.
