Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Nut Bud Moth - Epinotia tenerana

Nut Bud Moth - Epinotia tenerana A micro moth species from the family of Tortricidae , subfamily Spilomelinae. The moth has a wingspan of 12 mm to 16mm. This is a slight rust-brown Tortrix; some specimens are darker than others. Its preferred habitat is woodland and damp areas, mainly where the food plants are present. This moth is on the wing from July to early October. They can sometimes be found resting on the foliage of the food plants during the day. The species’ life history is that Larval feeds on Hazel and Alder, initially feeding on the catkins and then later burrowing into the leaf buds. It is widespread in most of Britain. The species is classified as common in the UK.
