Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Hoary Tortrix - Eucosma cana.

Hoary Tortrix - Eucosma cana. A micro moth species from the family of Tortricidae, subfamily Olethreutinaeidae. The moth has a wingspan of 15 to 23 mm. This species is distinctive with its buffish or greyish ground colour and darker longitudinal streaks. The light longitudinal discal streak on the forewing separates darker specimens with indistinct markings. This moth can be found on the wing from June to August, flies from late afternoon onwards, and comes to light. Its habitat is rough ground and flower meadows. The species’ life history is that the larvae feed on the flowerheads of Thistle and Black Knapweed. This species is widespread and classified as common in the UK.
