Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Dark-barred Tortrix - Syndemis musculana.

Dark-barred Tortrix - Syndemis musculana. A micro moth species from the family of Tortricidae , sub family Tortricinae. The moth has a wingspan of 15 to 22 mm. On this moth, both forewings and hindwings are primarily grey. The forewing ranges from whitish grey to brownish grey, with darker markings which vary in intensity. Some, especially worn specimens, lack discernible markings. Its habitat is woodland, mature hedgerows, and high moorland. This moth can be found on the wing late afternoon and evening in May and June, coming to light after dusk. The species' life history is that the larva feeds from a leaf spinning or folded leaf on Bramble Birch and Oak and many other trees, shrubs, herbs, and grasses. It is active from July to October, overwintering as a full-grown larva to pupate in the spring. This species is widespread and classified as a common species in the UK.
