Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Chequered Grass-veneer - Catoptria falsella

Chequered Grass-veneer - Catoptria falsella. A micro moth species from the family of Crambidae , sub family Crambinae. The moth has a wingspan of 18-22 mm. This is rather a creamy brown-looking, well-marked moth with a distinct pale patch running about half the length of the wing. The moths can be found on the wing in July and August when they can be attracted to light. It prefers various inhabitants. The species' life history is that the larva feeds on mosses growing on walls, especially the moss Tortula muralis and forms a silken tube. This species is distributed over much of Britain, most frequently in the south and classified as a common species in the UK.
