Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Micro-moths blog and the Macro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Bulrush Cosmet-Limnaecia phragmitella

Bulrush Cosmet-Limnaecia phragmitella

A micro moth species from the family of Cosmopterigidae subfamily Cosmopteriginae.

The moth has a wingspan of 16mm to 22 mm. A pale buff or brownish species with a couple of darker 'eye' patterns on each wing.

A common inhabitant of fens and marshes.

The moths can be found on the wing from June to August from dusk into the night.

The species' life history is that the larvae feed inside the seedheads of Bulrush throughout the winter. They can often be detected by the presence of quantities of protruding down.

It is widespread and classified as a common species in the UK.
