Yellow Shell - Camptogramma bilineata.

Yellow Shell - Camptogramma bilineata. A macro moth species from the family of Geometridae subfamily Larentiinae. A very variable species with examples ranging from bright yellow through to dark brown and variable in size. Four different subspecies occur, with the smaller and darker ones frequenting rocky places in northern Scotland and Ireland. The moth has a wingspan of 20-25 mm. The moth as one generation from June to August. The moth favours a range of habitats but with a preference for damper areas. The larvae feed on a variety of low-growing plants, including Chickweed and Sorrel. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a Common species of the UK.
