Treble Lines - Charanyca trigrammica.

Treble Lines - Charanyca trigrammica. A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae sub family Xyleninae. As the name suggests, the buff wings are crossed by three distinctively shaped lines. The moth has a wingspan of 35-40 mm. The moth as one generation from May to July. The moth's habitat favours woodland fringes, hedgerows, and commons. The nocturnal larvae feed on several herbaceous plants including Greater Plantain. They generally live just below the surface of the ground and chew through the stems at ground level. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a Common species of the UK.
