Sycamore - Acronicta aceris.

Sycamore - Acronicta aceris. A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae subfamily Acronictinae. Like several other Acronicta species, the ground colour varies from pale grey to dark sooty-grey. The moth has a wingspan of 35-45mm. The moth as one generation from June to August. The moth's habitat favours Gardens, parks, woodland, scrub, heathland. The brightly coloured caterpillar is covered with yellow and orange hairs and has a row of black-edged white blotches along the back. It feeds on Horse-chestnut as well as Sycamore and Field Maple. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a Common species of the UK.
