Rustic Shoulder-knot - Apamea sordens.

Rustic Shoulder-knot - Apamea sordens. A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae subfamily Xyleninae. A variable moth but often a relatively dull brownish colour, sometimes pinker. It can usually be recognised by the black 'shoulder-knot', a streak at the base of the forewing. The moth has a wingspan of 34-42 mm. The moth as one generation from May to July. The moth's habitat favours meadows, fields, and other grassy places. The caterpillars feed through the winter on various types of grass such as Cock's-foot. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
