Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Pale Tussock - Calliteara pudibunda.

Pale Tussock - Calliteara pudibunda. A macro moth species from the family of Erebidae sub family Lymantriinae. Rests with very hairy front legs stretched forward. Both the adults and larvae are quite hairy. The moth has a wingspan of 40-60 mm. The moth as one generation from May to June. The moth's habitat favours gardens, hedgerows, parks, woodland, and scrub. The larva is like that of the Dark Tussock, but is generally greenish or yellow, with four conspicuous tufts of yellow hairs. The very distinctive larvae can be found in the Autumn, and it feeds on a range of deciduous shrubs and trees and used to be a pest of Hop when it was commonly grown. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
