Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

Mullein - Cucullia verbasci.

Mullein - Cucullia verbasci. A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae subfamily Cuculliinae. The forewing is buff with dark brown stripes along the leading and trailing edges, the latter cut by a thin pale line. At rest, this moth looks like a dead plant stalk. The moth has a wingspan of 45-50 mm. The moth as generation from April to May. The moth's habitat favours a range of open habitats as well as gardens. The larval foodplants in the wild are various species of Mullein but it also feeds in gardens on Buddleia. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
