Mottled Umber - Erannis defoliaria

Mottled Umber ---- Erannis defoliaria. The moth is from the family of Geometridae – subfamily----- Ennominae. It Is a medium-sized macro moth, with a wingspan of 30 to 34 mm. This moth is a variable species, with some strongly-banded individuals and others are plain brownish with darker speckling. The females are entirely wingless. The moth as one generation and its flight season is from October to January. The moth's habitat is mainly an assortment of woodland, scrub, hedgerows, grassland and various other habitats. It overwinters as an egg on the food plant. The Larva appears from early April to late June. The species feeds mainly on broadleaved trees and shrubs. The moth is classed as common throughout the UK.
