Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

March Moth - Alsophila aescularia.

March Moth - Alsophila aescularia. A macro moth species from the family of Geometridae subfamily Ennominae. This is one of a few species of moth where the female is apterous, or wingless. The male has a distinctive way of resting, with the wings overlapping. The moth has a wingspan of 25-35 mm. The moth as generation from February to April. But as the vernacular name implies, the male moth is on the wing mainly in March. The females may be found crawling on tree trunks at night and the males can be attracted to light. The pale green larvae feed on a range of deciduous trees, including Hawthorn, Oak, and fruit trees. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
