Maple Prominent - Ptilodon cucullina.

Maple Prominent - Ptilodon cucullina. A macro moth species from the family of Notodontidae subfamily Notodontinae. A white blotch along the outer edge of the forewing is characteristic. Although similar in shape to the Coxcomb Prominent, this species has a more variegated appearance. The moth has a wingspan of 35 to 40 mm. The moth as generations from May to July. The moth’s habitat favours woodland and chalk downland. The larva lives on Field Maple and sometimes Sycamore. The moth is classified nationally as a local species of the UK.
