Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

Lychnis - Hadena bicruris.

Lychnis - Hadena bicruris. A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae sub family Hadeninae. The broad forewing which is dark greyish brown, with fine quite crisp straw white markings and a dark solid square or tooth like mark. The Campion is very similar, but this species usually has a pink hue to the wings. The moth has a wingspan of 30-40 mm. The moth as two generations from May to July and again August to September. The moths habitat favours woodland, heathland and suburban habitats. The larva foodplants are the seed capsules of various Campions and related plants, especially Red Campion. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
