Large Wainscot - Rhizedra lutosa.

Large Wainscot - Rhizedra lutosa. A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae sub family Xyleninae. This is a larger moth than the similar Common Wainscot and often has a more sooty appearance with numerous tiny black dust like spots. Ranges in ground colour from pale beige to a more pinkie shade.it is nearly always the females that are recorded at light. The moth has a wingspan of 42 to 50 mm. The moth as one generation from August to October. The moth’s habitat favours reed-beds and riversides. The larva feed in the bases of stems and the roots of common reed (Phragmites australis). The moth is classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
