Knot Grass - Acronicta rumicis A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae sub family Acronictinae A variable species, some examples of which can resemble other Acronicta species, but this moth usually shows a curved white mark near the rear edge of the forewing, even in melanic specimens. The moth has a wingspan of 30-35 mm The moth as two generations from May to July, there is a second brood in southern England, appearing in August and September. The moth’s habitat favours various open habitats including grassland, heathland, fens, scrub, gardens and open woodland The larva foodplants are herbaceous plants such as Dock, Teasel, Mint and Plantain as well as deciduous trees and shrubs. The moth is classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
