Iron Prominent - Notodonta dromedarius

Iron Prominent - Notodonta dromedarius A macro moth species from the family of Notodontidae, sub family Notodontinae The species is widespread but in the more northern parts of its range tend to be darker, with less orange and yellow. The moth has a wingspan of 35-40 mm. The moth as two generations from May to June and again from July to Aug. The moth’s habitat favours broad-leaved woodland, heathland, riverbanks and sometimes gardens. The caterpillar, in common with many of the 'Prominent', has several humps on the back. It lives mainly on Birch and Alder. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a common species of the UK.
