Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Feathered Thorn - Colotois pennaria

Feathered Thorn - Colotois pennaria The moth is from the family of Geometridae sub family: Ennominaesub It is a medium sized moth with a wingspan 35-45 mm. mm. Often a rich reddish-brown moth, but sometimes paler. Only the males have the feathery antennae which give rise to its English name. The species habitat is Broad-leaved woodland, areas with scattered trees, parks and gardens. The single generation flies in the autumn, from September to November. In spring, the caterpillars feed on a few deciduous trees and shrubs. The species is quite commonly distributed in Britain, but more locally in Scotland. The status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.
