Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

The Engrailed - Ectropis crepuscularia

The moth is from the family of Geometridae -- subfamily ---- Ennominae.

The moth is a very variable species, which closely resembles the Small Engrailed -E.crepuscular.

However, a recent DNA profile as established they are the same species.

There are two generations, flying in March and April, and then in July and August, but in the Northern parts of its range it is single-brooded, flying in April and May.

The moth mainly occurs in a wide range of habitats of woodland, heathland, scrub, hedgerows, gardens and other bushy habitats.

The species overwinters as a pupa underground.

The larva appears late-April to June and where a second-generation occurs, in late July to early September.

The larvae feed mainly on a wide range of woody plants,

The moth is classified nationally as a Common species of the UK.
