Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Early Thorn-Selenia dentaria

Early Thorn - Selenia dentaria.

The moth is from the family of Geometridae – subfamily ---- Ennominae.

.It Is a medium-sized macro moth, with a wingspan of 28 to 40 mm.

The resting position distinguishes the Early Thorn from all other UK Thorns. It resembles a butterfly by holding its wings up over its back pressed together.

The species has two generations and its flight season are February to May and July to September.

The moth occurs in a wide range of habitats.

The species overwinters as a pupa, spun between leaves or among plant debris.

The larva appears from May to June and again from August to October..

The species feed on a variety of deciduous trees.

The moth is classified nationally as a Common species of the UK.
