Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.
I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.
The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.
Ear Moth agg - Amphipoea oculea agg.
The moth is from the family of Noctuidae – subfamily ---- Xyleninae.
.It Is a medium-sized macro moth, with a wingspan of 32 to 38 mm.
The 'Ear' moths or Amphipoea species are so alike that it is not usually reliable to distinguish them without referring to their genitalic structure.
The species as one generation and its flight season are July to September.
The moth's habitats are mainly damp environments.
The species overwinters as an egg.
The larva appears from April to June.
The species feed mainly at the base of various grasses and low plants, on the stems and roots.
The moth is classified nationally as a Common species of the UK.
