December Moth----Poecilocampa populi.

The moth is from the family of Lasiocampidae – subfamily ---- Poecilocampinae.

It Is a small to medium-sized macro moth with a wingspan of 35 to 45 mm.

The moth as one generation and its flight season are from October to January.

The moth habitats are mainly woodland, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.

It overwinters as an egg attached to the bark of a twig or trunk.

The larva appears from April to June,

The larva feeds at night in spring on a variety of deciduous trees, Docks and dandelions.

It then Pupates under bark or amongst plant debris.

The moth is classed as a common species and well distributed throughout the UK.
