Coxcomb Prominent - Ptilodon capucina

Coxcomb Prominent----Ptilodon capucina.

The moth is from the family of Notodontidae – subfamily ---- Notodontinae.

It Is a medium-sized macro moth, with a wingspan of 35 to 40mm.

This month as two generations fly from April to June and again from August to September.

The moth's habitat favourites are woodland, scrub, parks and gardens.

It overwinters as a pupa in a cocoon underground,

The larva appears from June to July and August to early September.

The larval foodplants are a wide range of deciduous trees.

The larva has the habit of raising the head over the back when alarmed.

The moth is classed as a common species and well distributed throughout the UK.
