Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

I’m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Cinnabar Moth - Tyria jacobaeae

Cinnabar – Tyria jacobaeae

The moth is from the family of Erebidae, subfamily Arctiinae.

It Is a medium macro moth, with a wingspan of 32 to 42 mm.

They resemble no other British species, except perhaps the Burnets ---Zygaenidae.

The moth as one generation and its flight season is from May to August.

The moth's habitat is mainly, wherever Ragwort grows, usually in long grassy places.

It overwinters as a pupa, in a flimsy cocoon just under the ground.

The lava appears from July to early September. Conspicuous, in the open on the food plant by day.

The Larva feeds on the ragwort plant-eating the leaves and flowers stripping the plant bare.

This moth is classed as a fairly common species in much of the UK.
