Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

Centre-barred Sallow - Atethmia centrago.

The moth is from the family of Noctuidae subfamily Xyleninae

The moth is a medium-sized macro species, With a wingspan of 32 to 36 mm.

It feeds mainly downy and Silver Birch, Alder, limes, elms.

It overwinters mainly as an egg, laid in small batches on a twig or in a bark crevice.

The larva appears in early spring to early June.

The larva live at first inside an unopen bud

The larva feed on unopened buds and flowers of mature Ash, then constructs an underground cocoon.

And pupates several weeks later..

The moth's flight season is a single generation flying from August to September.

The species main habitats are woodland and hedgerows.

The moth is a resident common species throughout the UK.
