Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing-Noctua fimbriata

Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, Noctua fimbriata

The moth is from the family of Noctuidae, subfamily Noctuinae.

It Is a sizeable macro moth,

with a wingspan of 45 to 55 mm.

The moth as one generation and its flight season are from July to September.

The moth's habitat is mainly broadleaved woodland, and other well-wooded areas, also in gardens.

The species overwinters close to the ground as a small larva from September to May,

Feeding at night and hiding by day in leaf litter it then pupates underground.

The larval foodplant is a wide range of herbaceous plants,

will climb to feed on low woody plants like bramble mostly at springtime.

The moth is a common species found throughout most of mainland UK, although is less common in Scotland.
