Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

Alder Kitten - Furcula bicuspis

Alder Kitten - Furcula bicuspis.

A macro moth species from the family of Notodontidae, sub family Cerurinaeortricidae.

The moth has a wingspan of Wingspan 30 to 35 mm.

Of the three 'kittens' (Furcula spp.) in Britain, this has the most contrasting appearance: dark slate-grey, almost black bands on a white background.

The moths can be found on the wing from dusk into the night, between June and August; the adult is easily attracted to light.

Its favoured habitat is primarily woodlands.

The species' life history is that the larvae feed on Birch and Alder.

It is classified as a local species in the UK.
