Hello, from Steve Garten and welcome to my weird and wonderful world of moths.

Iā€™m amateur Lepidopterist, I trap and record moth species on my six acre wildlife meadow at Tibenham Norfolk, UK.

The list of moths listed in this Macro-moths blog and the Micro Moths blog are the species I have recorded since 2015.

White-point - Mythimna albipuncta.

White-point - Mythimna albipuncta. A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae subfamily Hadeninae. A rather round, pure white mark on the forewing diagnostic. Since 2000 this species has established itself as a resident in Norfolk, with only 4 records in 2000, twenty years later it's been recorded over 2000 times, and it continues to increase with nearly 4000 in 2021! The moth has a wingspan of 30 to 35 mm. In the UK the species occurs in mainly in August and September, although there are records from June to November. The moth favours Coastal habitats, heathland, fens, woodland, scrub, and gardens. Although it usually occurs as an immigrant to the UK, in favourable years breeding may take place, and the species has occasionally become temporarily established in the southeast. In Europe, the larvae are known to feed on various types of grass. The moth is an Immigrant and recent resident and is classified nationally as a Common species of the UK.
