Tawny Pinion - Lithophane semibrunnea. A macro moth species from the family of Noctuidae sub family Xyleninae. Mainly tawny brown generally paler and more straw coloured toward the leading edge of the wing, but with a blackish bar running parallel with the trailing edge. The moth has a wingspan of 40 to 44 mm. The species flies late in the autumn, in October and November, and then hibernates, reappearing in April and May. The moth's habitat favours open woodland and marshy places. The larvae feed mainly on Ash. The moth is Local in Norfolk and classified nationally as a Common species of the UK.
