Scalloped Hazel - Odontopera bidentata. A macro moth species from the family of Geometridae subfamily Ennominae . Quite a variable species, with individuals ranging from pale brown to almost black, the darker varieties having less obvious markings. The moth has a Forewing 20-24mm. The moth as one generation from May to June. The moth's habitat favours woodland, heaths, and suburban habitats. The Larva feeds on various woody plants, including Hazel, Silver and Downy Birch, Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Oak and some coniferous trees, overwintering as a pupa. The moth is classified nationally as a Common species in the UK.
