Sallow Kitten - Furcula furcula. A macro moth species from the family of Notodontidae subfamily Cerurinae. A most attractive moth resembling a kitten with its furry head and front legs. It's rich patterning of black on white is also speckled with oranges. The moth has a wingspan of 27-35 mm. The moth as two generations from May to June and again from July to Aug. The most widespread and common of the British 'Kittens' are distributed throughout a range of habitats. The caterpillars, which resemble smaller versions of those of the Puss Moths feed on Willows, Aspen, and other Poplars. The moth is widespread and classified nationally as a Common species of the UK.
